Challenge
4 Luv of Dog Rescue relies heavily on social media to connect dogs with adopters, fosters, volunteers, and event attendees. The challenge was creating content that could stand out in a busy feed while working within common nonprofit constraints: inconsistent cell phone photos, limited volunteer time, and a wide range of information that needed to be communicated quickly.
Solution
As a volunteer social media coordinator and designer, I developed a brighter, more consistent visual system anchored in the rescue’s hot pink brand color. I also partnered with a local photographer to create stronger dog portraits and rebuilt recurring templates in Canva so other volunteers could easily update posts without losing visual consistency.
Results
Increased post views by 200–700% and engagement by 200%
Streamlined the content creation process with reusable Canva templates for volunteers
Generated more visibility and adoption interest for featured dogs
A More Recognizable, Dog-First Feed
Across adoption, fostering, education, and event content, the goal was to make 4 Luv of Dog Rescue feel more recognizable while keeping the dogs at the center and creating posts that felt upbeat, approachable, and easy to engage with.
Template Redesigns
Because posts are created by volunteers, social templates needed to be easy to maintain, not just visually polished. I redesigned key recurring formats in Canva with flexible photo areas, clear text hierarchy, and platform-specific sizing so volunteers could quickly swap in new photos and details.
This helped make the feed more consistent while reducing the time needed to create event graphics, adoption updates, and day-of promotional posts.

Helping Harder-to-Place Dogs Stand Out
Some adoptable dogs need more than a single photo or short caption to find the right match. I created a multi-slide dog profile format to spotlight long-term rescue dogs and dogs with more specific home needs. The format gives potential adopters a fuller picture of each dog while making the posts easier for supporters to understand, save, and share.
